Round Rock Community Reinvestment Grant

Presented by the Round Rock Branch

SouthStar Bank is pleased announce a $10,000 Round Rock Community Reinvestment Grant.
The grant will go to one of the five service organizations below – and YOU select the recipient!

Project: Affordable Mammograms
Routine breast exams save lives, but many women are forced to go without due to their cost. Samaritan Health Ministries provides low-cost mammograms to female patients aged 40 and over as part of their Well Woman Care program. The grant would allow Samaritan Health Ministries to provide 200 women with this vital preventative screening at just $50 per mammogram.

About Samaritan Health Ministries
Samaritan Health Ministries is a clinic for the uninsured, and the last line of defense for patients who would otherwise wind up in a hospital emergency room or go without medical care. Most patients have limited income and complicated health issues resulting from an ongoing lack of preventative care. Samaritan Health Ministries provides services on a sliding fee scale based on the patient’s income and family situation. Patients are able to access primary care, well woman care, dental care, mental health care, plus get essential medications at the clinic. Samaritan Health Ministries helps patients live productive, healthy lives!

Project: Provide In-Need Youth with Equipment for Team Sports
NYSA’s primary objective is to develop and better community youth regardless of their background and socio-economic status. No child should miss out on valuable team sports opportunities because financial limitations keep their family from purchasing the required equipment. This grant will enable many additional children to participate who would otherwise find themselves on the sidelines. Every penny contributed goes to pay for uniforms, safety equipment, field rentals, referees, and insurance premiums. NYSA is managed and run 100% by volunteers.

About Northside Youth Sports Academy

Northside Youth Sports Academy is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide positive, uplifting experiences for families through youth sports. They are committed to creating a culture that builds character and teaches life lessons that will help far beyond the playing field. NYSA aspires to make sure the diverse needs, interests and abilities of all children are met while upholding a common set of values. NYSA believes participation in organized sports can help children build self-esteem and realize their full potential while promoting a sense of community. An important part of this experience is giving back to the community by serving organizations like “Battle of the Badges” and “Battle for a Cure.”

Project: Funding Operations and Facility Improvements
As an organization Hope Alliance strives to maintain administrative expenses under 15%, though there are still broad costs associated with running a non-profit. This grant will help pay for utilities, staff, insurance, van maintenance and much needed repairs to the shelter.

About Hope Alliance

Hope Alliance is Williamson County’s only domestic and sexual violence resource center and emergency shelter. They serve victims and their families with counseling, legal advocacy, case management, financial coaching and emergency shelter free of charge. During a typical year Hope Alliance aids approximately 3,700 community members. Hope Alliance advocates creating an environment where violence and abuse are not tolerated by providing education, violence prevention services and crisis intervention to victims.

Project: Trail Improvements and Expansion
The Violet Crown Trail is on its way to becoming the longest trail of its kind in Central Texas. Once complete, the 30-mile trail will provide a unique experience as it passes through the urban wildlands of the Barton Creek Wilderness Park, the City of Sunset Valley, and eventually into Hays County. The Trail represents the Hill Country Conservancy’s vision to get people outdoors to experience and appreciate wildlife, clean streams and breathtaking views. The grant will help fund trail improvements and extensions as it nears completion.

About Hill Country Conservancy

Hill Country Conservancy marshals public and private resources to preserve the natural areas and scenic vistas, aquifers and springs, rivers and streams, working farms and ranches, and the rural heritage of the Central Texas Hill Country for people to enjoy and cherish for generations to come. They believe that the region’s prosperity is inextricably tied to its natural landscape and quality of life, but growth has consequences. As we develop more land, less rainwater makes it back into the aquifers and springs. This increases the fragmentation of contiguous wildlife habitat and undermines the beauty of our surroundings. Hill Country Conservancy believes the future economic success of Central Texas and the Hill Country is tied to how well we balance our growth with the preservation of our precious natural resources.

Project: No-Cost Counseling and Enrichment for The Vulnerable and At-Risk
Two of the programs served by Children At Heart Ministries have begun expanding free counseling and outreach services that help vulnerable children and families in Round Rock. HOPE Services, a program of Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock, delivers afterschool and summer enrichment programs to more than 100 children per year who live in low-income apartment communities in Round Rock. Northstar Counseling, a program of STARRY in Round Rock, extends free counseling services to children, individuals and families in greater Williamson County who are in crisis but have limited access to therapeutic services. The grant will provide financial support for these programs, and would be supplemented by a private foundation which has pledged an additional 50 cents per dollar donated.

About Children At Heart Ministries

Children At Heart Ministries donates financial and human resource management, fundraising, communications, charitable estate planning, and technology services to four independent child and family service ministries. These include Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock; STARRY, which serves 32 counties from eight offices including Round Rock; Miracle Farm in Brenham; and Gracewood in Houston. The four ministries together deliver a wide range of residential, counseling, and community-based services with a vision to extend hope and a promising future to all they serve.
